River Catcher Vein

Diana Maria Mine, Frosterley, Weardale, Co. Durham, England

Discovered - September 2023

While extracting this pocket (situated on the River Catcher Vein) in September 2023, the night skies above northern England were lit by magnificent displays of the Aurora Borealis. In recognition of the perfect coincidental colors and timing, this pocket was named the Northern Lights.

Occasional faces are dusted with wispy patches of micro-sucrosic quartz, and in daylight the cubes naturally fluoresce deep purple at their corners.
