Bloodshot iolite with water sapphire refers to a specific, rare type of iolite (cordierite)that contains hematite inclusions, causing red flashes (bloodshot), while its blue-violet colour and pleochroism earn it the trade name “water sapphire” due to its resemblance to sapphire but with a watery appearance. The red flashes come from hematite platelets creating sparkle (aventurescence)and the watery look is from its strong color change (pleochroism) from blue to gray/brown, distinguishing it from true sapphire.Â
